Throw Out 50 Things Challenge Completed!

Two weeks ago I challenged all of you to throw away 50 things and start the New Year with a clean home and a clear mind.  Well my friends, I’m happy to say that on my end this CHALLENGE HAS BEEN COMPLETED!!!

You can still join here.

I must have entered the challenge with the right mindset, because I’m the type to get emotional about letting go of things anything but it only took me two days to find 50 items that no longer had a place in my life.

So do I feel relieved?  heck yeah! and oddly enough I want to keep going.  I actually want to get rid of almost every piece of clothing I own and start fresh.  I think my life will be a lot less complicated if I had the right amount of clothes I love in my closet rather than a closet full of nothing to wear.  But that’s a challenge for another season.

Take a look at the 50 things that I have donated, recycled or trashed and get some ideas to get your done:

Throw Out 50 Things Challenge!

I created the Throw Out 50 Things Challenge  inspired by the book Throw Out Fifty Things: Clear the Clutter, Find Your Life, where the best-seller author Gail Blanke challenges us to let go in order to grow and move forward.

The book encourages us to go let go of the negative talk, old mindsets, old way of doing things,  fears, emotional baggage, but most importantly to take the first step by throwing out 50 physical things in our homes that we don’t really need.

We often hold on to objects and things that we don’t need for fear of letting go. Those things become clutter and that clutter gets us to stuck physically and mentally. This challenge is about detaching and gaining clarity in our lives.

Did you know that people burn 55 minutes a day looking for things? (source)

I invite you to join this challenge and start the New Year with a clean home and a clear mind.

Lucky Seven Ten – Liebster Award Nominees (Part 2)

Last Sunday High Heels and Grits gave Lucky Seven Ten a Liebster Award.   This award is passed on from bloggers to new bloggers that inspire them and have less than 200 followers.

Now is my turn to do the following:

  • Post 11 random things about myself.
  • Answering Rachel’s 11 questions.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs/bloggers with <200 followers that I’m inspired by.
  • Ask my nominees 11 questions.

11 Random Things About Me

  1. I’m engaged to an God-sent amazing man.
  2. I was born in Dominican Republic & have lived in NYC since age 9.
  3. I have dual citizenship – Dominican & American.
  4. I was raised Roman Catholic but as an adult decided that becoming a non-denominational Christian was better suited to my beliefs and got baptized on the beach.
  5. I love to travel and Barcelona is one gorgeous city I would live in.
  6. As a kid I loved this song which talks about wanting to have 1 million friends (but I would picture  having 1 million friends around the world that I can visit when I travel).
  7. I have a large mole in between my nose and lips that I often contemplate removing but can’t get myself to do it.
  8. I have a lot close friends and most are females.
  9. I love coffee.  Homemade black Bustelo brewed on a greca.
  10. I have an Associates degree in Marketing and Bachelors in Business Management & Finance.
  11. I was extremely shy an introverted but I’m more an extrovert now.

11 Questions from High Heels and Grits‘ Rachel to me

  1.  What has been the biggest success in your life so far?
Being in tune with myself. Knowing, loving and accepting who I am.
  2. What has been your biggest failure?
No failures, I call them learning experiences. One that lingered for a long time was the poor financial decisions I made after being laid off due to the Global Financial Crisis and 2008-2009 Stock Market Crash.   Now I’m all about budgeting and conscious spending. But, I think in general I’ve done what I can in the situations I’ve been placed.
  3. What has been your biggest blogging success?
I just started the Lucky Seven Ten blog about a month ago, but prior this, I started a blog project giving small businesses Marketing and Public Relations advice.  I didn’t get to blog as much but I did offer free consultations for a while and worked with non profit organizations.  I did about 10-15 marketing consultations and I was very proud of the positive feedback I received from my clients.  Most small business have no clue about marketing strategy and how it all works so they were grateful for the information I provided.
  4. What was your biggest blogging failure?
Not continuing to blog for small businesses.   I have the knowledge and ideas that I know many small business can benefit from but I simply don’t have the time to commit to that type of project right now.  Lucky Seven Ten is completely for leisure and a creative outlet.
  5. Are you an only child, the oldest, middle or youngest child?
Oldest of my mom and middle of my dad.  My father had a son prior to marrying my mom.
  6. Where do you wish you were living?
Somewhere with no long harsh winters. A little chill is nice for a couple weeks but in NYC winter tends to over extend its stay. I’ve grown into it but last year I worked by the water and the winner kicked my b*tt.
  7. Not to be morbid, but where do you want to live your last day on this earth?
A place free of injustices and oppression. Where all citizens live peacefully and in harmony with each other, but that might be reserved for heaven ::sigh::
  8. What is your favorite board game?
It used to be monopoly although I was just an average player. Charades is a fun game to play in groups.
  9. What do you just LOVE about yourself?
When I have a goal in sight there is no giving up.  But I really have to believe that this is what I want and that it is worth the time and patience I will need to invest in it.
  10. What do you just LOVE about mankind?
That we are works of God and He makes no mistakes. The human body alone is so complex and amazing. Sometimes I picture God working on nature, making new creatures and keeping us in awe of all his amazing creation.   I also think that collectively we reflect a tiny peace of God – we are artist, architects, doctors, healers, etc.
  11. Which of your blog posts should we visit?
    The about me section.

And now my 11 nominees listed here.

Lucky Seven Ten – Liebster Award (Part 1)

About a week after I got back from the cruise I landed a new job.  So far I’m very happy there and feel blessed to have been introduced to this opportunity by a good friend. But as with a new job, I have a lot to learn so I’ve been working very looooong hours.

Lucky Seven Ten has since taken a back sit to my bread and butter and I have about 10 blog post sitting on draft.  Considering I don’t  have a large audience yet I haven’t been exactly super motivated to come home after a long tiresome day to work on my blog uncertain if anyone is even reading it. (Sorry for the lack of faith guys!)

But then something really cool happened last Sunday.  Rachel from High Heels & Grits posted on my page that she nominates me for the Liebster Blog Award. This award is passed on from bloggers to new bloggers that inspire them and have less than 200 followers.

I was so happy when I read this.  I thought wow somebody is actually reading my blog and not only is she reading it but she loves it.  I was ignited.  I think it’s so awesome that someone likes my blog even though I’ve only written two blog posts. As a blogger, you truly never know who you are inspiring.  If just one person likes what I’m putting out there I’m happy.

The Liebster Blog Award’s origin is unknown and the rules seem to have change over time but here is what I will be doing:

  • Posting 11 random things about myself here.
  • Answering Rachel’s 11 questions here.
  • Nominating 11 new blogs/bloggers with <200 followers that I’m inspired by here.
  • Asking my nominees 11 questions here.

So I thank this beautiful soul for nominating me and here are my nominees.

Hello World!

“No one can tell your story so tell it yourself.  No one can write your story so write it yourself.”

I came across this meme about writing and I think it’s the perfect introduction to this blog.  We all have a story to tell and experiences to share and what better way to do that than by keeping a journal.  Some journals are meant to be reserved for family and kept private but some are meant to be shared with the world for everyone to use.

This blog is my public journal and it was born out of desire to put my thoughts on paper, be useful and help others by sharing my experiences (you can read more about me here).

I will be blogging about:

  • Natural (mostly natural) beauty products reviews –This will include makeup, skin care, hair, perfumes, etc.  For the past 2 years I’ve switch to natural and organic products where ever possible but occasionally use products that deliver performance regardless of ingredients.
  • Food recipes, food products and restaurant reviews and food events –The recipes will mostly be curated from the internet with a few of my own, focused on easy to make, healthy/somewhat healthy and flavorful meals.  I will post restaurant reviews and invitations to local food events in NYC.
  • Travel/Vacations – I love to travel and hope to do a lot of that in the next couple of years.  I will be posting curated lists of things to do as well as providing personal reviews.
  • Local/NYC – Activities, restaurants and everyday interesting things related to NYC.
  • My wedding planning – I’m engaged!!! the love of my life proposed exactly a week ago on a cruise so I will definitely post interesting wedding related findings.
  • Deals, Promotions & Events – I will post these occasionally.
Im engaged!
I sent this picture to my closest friends to let them know I’m engaged.

This blog is a work in progress so the titles and topics may change over time, please be patient and feel free to email me at anytime.

Thanks for sticking around! :)
